Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital Nashik conducted two liver transplants back to back in a month. The first of the two liver transplants was conducted on a 45 year old after a 60 year old male was declared brain dead after intracranial bleeding. The transplant was conducted on 14th November 21. Following the consent given by the family of brain dead donor, the liver was harvested and transplanted at Sahyadri Super Specialty Hospital Nashik.
The second transplant was conducted on 19th November’ 21. A 47 year old patient was declared brain dead following serious head injury gave a new lease of life to a 47 year old patient from Pune.
Dr. Bipin Vibhute, Director and Head of Organ Transplantation & Hepatobiliary Surgery, Sahyadri Hospitals informed that the first liver transplant was conducted on a 45 year old suffering from Hepatitis B related liver condition. The patient’s condition was deteriorating and liver transplant was necessary. All the guidelines and measures related to Covid-19 were followed during harvesting and transplanting the liver. The second liver transplant was conducted on a 47 year old male patient suffering from chronic liver disease.
The treating team consisted of Multi organ transplant & hepatibiliry surgeons Dr. Bipin Vibhute, Dr. Apurv Deshpande, Dr. Aniruddha Bhosale, Dr. Abhijit Mane, Liver transplant physician and hepatologists Dr. Sheetal Mahajani & Dr. Sandeep Patil, Anaesthetist Dr. Manish Pathak and Dr. Manoj Raut and coordinators Rahul Tambe, Arun Ashokan, Aman Bele amongst others.
