The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID), the apex professional body representing India’s design fraternity, is set to host the much-anticipated Golden Jubilee National Convention (NATCON) 2025, themed “Design for the Times”, from January 30th to February 1st, 2025, at the prestigious Democracy Convention Centre, Nashik. Led by IIID President Ar. Sarosh Wadia, Chairperson Ar. Jabeen Zacharias, Joint Chair Ar. Nanish Kunath, and Hon. Secretary Ar. Shamini Shanker, along with the support of a dedicated 15-member National Executive Council NATCON 2025 promises to be a defining moment in the history of IIID.
Since its inception in 1972, IIID has grown into India’s largest professional organization for interior design, with over 10,000 members across 35 Chapters and Centres, advocating for excellence, sustainability, and innovation in design. NATCON 2025 marks 50 years of IIID’s incredible journey while embracing the future of design through groundbreaking discussions and initiatives.
The theme, “Design for the Times”, underscores the critical role of design in shaping a sustainable future that addresses the needs of people across all socio-economic backgrounds. As rapid urbanization and technological advancements reshape the world, design holds the key to creating environments that foster well-being, preserve heritage, and embrace cutting-edge solutions.
The grand opening ceremony on January 30th will witness a march-past of IIID’s 35 Chapters, the hoisting of the IIID flag, and the presence of over 1,500 delegates, including some of the most influential figures in the design industry. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Chetan Solanki, popularly known as India’s Solar Man, while internationally acclaimed architect Anja Humljan will delve into the profound connection between design and wellness in her session.
One of the key highlights of NATCON 2025 is the carefully curated four-session program, conceptualized by Niraj Shah, covering critical themes that align with contemporary challenges and opportunities in the design world. Renowned speakers, including Robert Greenwood, (Norway) Luca Bussolino (Italy), and Tony Joseph, will offer their perspectives through engaging discussions on:
- Well-Being & Human Centricity, exploring how design can enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being through biophilic elements, ergonomics, and sensory experiences.
- Technology as an Enabler, examining the impact of AI, automation, and smart technologies in reshaping modern interior spaces.
- Resource Optimization, focusing on sustainable materials and practices that champion environmental responsibility.
- Cultural Continuity, highlighting the importance of preserving heritage while adapting to contemporary design needs.
The convention promises a well-rounded experience with engaging formats such as panel discussions, interactive debates, and rapid-fire presentations, ensuring delegates gain valuable insights and practical takeaways.
Beyond knowledge-sharing, NATCON 2025 aims to provide a holistic experience, offering a range of exciting activities such as the Red-Carpet Walk, celebrating the achievements of design stalwarts, the Wall of Fame, showcasing national and international award-winning projects and the Design Excellence Avenue, a confluence of innovative ideas and collaborations. The Vision in Vogue designer ramp walk will showcase creativity through fashion and storytelling, while interactive workshops, masterclasses, and team-based fun activities will add a touch of excitement to the three-day event.
The meticulous planning and execution of NATCON 2025 is being led by Convenors Jignesh Modi, Sunita Varghese, and Ganesh Wable, along with a strong team from the Nashik Chapter, led by Convenor Atul Bohora and co-convenors Rakhi Takle, Tarannum kadri and Vaishali Pradhan, working tirelessly with 33 specialized committees, ensuring the convention’s success.
Adding further significance to the event, the IIID Nashik Chapter is also hosting the DesignX Trade Show, providing a platform for leading manufacturers, suppliers, and innovators to showcase cutting-edge products and solutions that will shape the future of interior design. From product launches to hands-on demonstrations and networking opportunities, the trade show aims to create synergy between design professionals and industry leaders.
With NATCON 2025, IIID reaffirms its commitment to advancing design excellence and promoting sustainable, people-centric solutions. The event serves as a beacon of inspiration for the next generation of designers while strengthening the camaraderie within the design community.
